Check whether your credit card already includes travel insurance before you buy it at checkout.
Some cards include complimentary travel insurance when you pay for the flight with the card. People still tick the airline’s insurance add-on on top.

Read your card’s benefits document for complimentary travel insurance, what triggers it (usually charging the full fare to the card), the cover limits, and exclusions. If it genuinely covers what you need, skip the add-on. If it doesn’t, buy a standalone policy you’ve actually compared.

- Cards that advertise travel benefits.
- Short trips where basic cover is enough.

- Cover limits are lower than you need (medical especially).
- Trips with activities your card policy excludes.

- Cover varies wildly by card and issuer. This is a prompt to check, not a promise of cover.
- Never travel uninsured because you assumed. Confirm in writing, and check medical limits.
